Morocco has secured the top position in Ireland’s green bean market, underscoring its role as the world’s leading exporter, according to EastFruit. Ireland imported 817 tons of Moroccan green beans in 2025, 2.5 times more than in 2024 and nearly seven times the volume of 2023. This marks a new record and Morocco’s first time as Ireland’s No. 1 supplier.

The landscape shifted in 2024 when Guatemala’s shipments collapsed due to logistical disruptions at the Panama Canal and tighter EU pesticide residue regulations. Ireland turned to alternative suppliers, enabling Morocco and Kenya to expand direct exports. Spain and the Netherlands also grew their roles as re-export hubs, channeling Moroccan produce into Ireland.
In 2025, Morocco capitalized on this opening, boosting its share of Ireland’s imports to 36.2% and overtaking Kenya and the UK. This milestone reflects a broader trend: Morocco is steadily consolidating its position in EU fresh produce markets. Its geographic proximity, efficient logistics, and competitive pricing continue to strengthen its appeal among European buyers.
Notably, Morocco also set a record for tomato exports to Ireland in the previous season, further highlighting its growing influence in European horticultural trade.
