Morocco is steadily reinforcing its presence in the Swiss fresh zucchini market, demonstrating consistent export growth. According to EastFruit, Moroccan zucchini exports to Switzerland surpassed 1,000 tonnes during this marketing year – an increase of 25% compared to MY 2023/24 and the highest volume recorded to date. Over the past four marketing years, the average annual growth rate has exceeded 40%.
This season, Switzerland emerged as one of the top seven export destinations for Moroccan zucchini. While export volumes to Switzerland remain lower than those to other European markets, the robust growth trajectory signals strong potential for further expansion.
The Moroccan zucchini export season to Switzerland runs from October through May, with peak shipments occurring between January and March – closely aligning with Switzerland’s peak import window for zucchini.

Spain continues to dominate the Swiss zucchini import market, supplying over 75% of total imports during this MY. Italy also remains a key competitor, steadily increasing its export volumes. Despite this, Morocco’s market share has grown significantly – from 2.3% in MY 2021/22 to 5.8% in MY 2024/25.

Morocco’s growing success can be attributed to favorable climatic conditions, enhanced logistics, supportive trade agreements, and rising demand for fresh vegetables in Switzerland. Looking ahead, Morocco is well-positioned to further expand its market share, particularly through continued investment in product quality and supply chain efficiency. However, competition from Spain and Italy will remain a key challenge, necessitating innovation and a strategic approach.
Notably, Morocco also set a new record this season for tomato exports to Norway, further underscoring the country’s expanding footprint in European fresh produce markets.
