Morocco is steadily strengthening its presence in the Danish fresh produce market, with consistent growth in exports of fresh or chilled tomatoes, according to EastFruit. Moroccan tomato exports to Denmark reached 1,660 metric tons during the first 10 months of the current marketing year (July 2024 – June 2025). This marks a 32% increase compared to MY 2023/24 and a 67% rise over MY 2022/23. Over the past three marketing years, Morocco has expanded its tomato shipments to Denmark nearly sixfold.

Tomatoes are Morocco’s leading fruit and vegetable export, accounting for over 25% of the sector’s foreign currency earnings. While Denmark is not among the top destinations for Moroccan tomatoes – unlike France, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands – its share in Morocco’s overall tomato export structure remains below 1%. Nonetheless, the consistent upward trend highlights Denmark as a promising growth market, contributing to Morocco’s broader strategy of diversifying export destinations.
Moroccan tomatoes have been shipped to Denmark on a monthly basis over the past three marketing years, with no pronounced seasonal peaks. For instance, peak volumes in MY 2022/23 occurred in February, while MY 2023/24 saw its highest shipments in April. Interestingly, October marked the lowest export volume in MY 2023/24, yet in the current MY, October exports reached a record high.

The Netherlands and Spain remain Denmark’s primary suppliers of tomatoes, though their export volumes – as well as Denmark’s overall tomato imports – have been declining in recent years. In contrast, Morocco’s market share continues to grow. In MY 2021/22, Moroccan tomatoes accounted for less than 1% of Denmark’s imports; by MY 2023/24, that figure rose to 3.7%, and after the first 10 months of the current MY, it exceeds 5%. Morocco’s key competitors in the Danish market include France, Germany, and Italy. With current trends, Morocco is likely to surpass Italy in export volume and enter Denmark’s top five tomato suppliers for the first time.
Notably, Morocco has been the only non-European country supplying tomatoes to Denmark over the past two marketing years.
In addition, Morocco set a new record for tomato exports to Norway in the current MY, further underscoring the strategic potential of the Scandinavian market for Moroccan produce.
Beyond tomatoes, Morocco also exports a range of products to Denmark, including pickled and canned vegetables, watermelons, almonds, and – starting this MY – strawberries.
