Melon prices increased significantly in Ukraine this week, according to analysts at the EastFruit project. The main factors behind the price growth were a seasonal decline in supply and relatively strong consumer demand.
Compared to the previous week, melon prices in Ukrainian farms increased by an average of 37%. According to growers, this was primarily driven by the seasonal reduction in the supply of this produce. At present, melon harvesting has almost been completed in many farms located in southern regions of the country. In addition, many producers are facing quality issues caused by unfavorable weather conditions.
Currently, farmers are shipping wholesale lots of melons directly from the field at UAH 10-20/kg ($0.22-0.45/kg), whereas last week prices in this segment did not exceed UAH 15/kg ($0.34/kg).

It should be noted that, despite the recent increase, melon prices in Ukrainian farms remain on average 46% lower than during the same period last year.
