Over the past three weeks, prices for last year’s carrot harvest in Uzbekistan have shown a trend opposite to that observed during the same period last year.
While wholesale prices dropped by half in the second half of April and early May 2024, this year they have increased by approximately one-third over the same period. According to EastFruit analysts, the main reason for this price growth is the shrinking supply of last year’s carrots on the domestic market, as stocks are being depleted at a faster rate.
According to EastFruit’s price monitoring, between April 11 and April 25, 2025, the average wholesale price for last year’s carrots rose from 3,000 to 4,000 UZS/kg (from $0.23 to $0.31), and has remained at that level into early May. Current wholesale prices are more than twice as high as they were at the same time last year.
Traders report that due to low prices in spring and summer 2024, significantly fewer late-maturing carrot varieties—harvested in October–November 2024—were stored compared to the previous autumn. In April 2025, the depletion of remaining stocks accelerated noticeably, becoming the key factor behind the price increase.

It’s worth noting that in recent years, sharp price increases and high volatility in the market for last year’s carrots between mid-March and late May have become a regular occurrence in Uzbekistan. Over the past five years, only in spring 2024 did prices show a stable decline in April and remain consistently low in May–June. In contrast, from 2021 to 2023, the market saw a sharp rise and significant fluctuations in March–April. As of May 2, 2025, the average wholesale price for last year’s carrots was approximately at the same level as on the same date in 2021–2022 and one-third lower than on that day in 2023.
Meanwhile, in late April and early May, the first batches of the new carrot harvest appeared in wholesale markets in Uzbekistan’s capital, priced at an average of 11,000 UZS/kg ($0.85). This season, the first wholesale batches of new carrots arrived much earlier than in the previous two years. For comparison, in 2024 the first young carrots became available around mid-May at an average wholesale price of 6,500 UZS/kg ($0.51), and in 2023 they appeared closer to the end of May at 8,000 UZS/kg ($0.70), EastFruit analysts conclude.
