Indonesia is preparing to export whole durians directly to China, aiming to tap into China’s substantial durian market, which is valued at approximately $8 billion, according Fructidor.
Currently, Indonesia exports durian paste, primarily used in products like ice cream. This process is complex, time-consuming, and yields lower profits compared to exporting whole fruits. To enhance profitability, the Indonesian government plans to ship whole durians directly to China, eliminating the need for transit through countries like Thailand, which currently reduces profit margins.

Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, indicated that China is expected to conduct direct inspections of Indonesian durians early next year. This initiative presents a significant opportunity for Indonesian durian farmers to expand their market reach and increase income by meeting the high demand in China.
