In Ukraine, price of greenhouse cucumbers fell 1.6 times in a week

As of 25 September 2020, Ukrainian greenhouse cucumber prices were 1.5 times lower on average compared to September 2019

The price of greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine plummeted during the week of 21 September 2020, EastFruit analysts report. According to the producers themselves, film-covered cucumbers began to go on sale en masse that week, which, combined with weakening buyer activity, forced greenhouse facilities to reduce their selling prices nearly 2 times.

According to daily monitoring data, since the beginning of that week, the price for greenhouse cucumbers on the Ukrainian domestic market fell on average 1.6 times and by September 25th, prices were at the level of 4-5 UAH/kg ($0.14-0.18/kg). The reason for such a sharp reduction in production cost was a second wave in the massive cucumbers supply from film greenhouses. And at that moment, prices for film and greenhouse products become equal.

It is important to note that the price of greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine as of 25 September was already 1.5 times lower on average than at the end of September 2019. Many market players agree that if, in the near future, the sales rates of these products do not accelerate, then the negative price trend of greenhouse cucumbers will continue.
