Greenhouse Cucumber Prices in Ukraine Are Rising Again

On the Ukrainian market this week, analysts from EastFruit report an increase in prices for domestically produced greenhouse cucumbers. Market participants cite several factors behind this trend. First, supplies were insufficient because harvest volumes at the growing complexes were both unstable and low due to cool, overcast weather. At the same time, demand for cucumbers remained relatively high.

In light of these conditions, greenhouse operators have revised their prices upward. Currently, the main transactions for locally grown greenhouse cucumbers are being concluded at UAH 50–75 per kilogram (USD 1.21–1.81/kg), on average 17% higher than at the end of the previous working week.

Market participants also note that a reduction in imports has given them room to raise their domestic offer prices. Moreover, competition among local producers is considerably weaker than in May of last year, since cool spring weather continues to limit and destabilize cucumber harvests at Ukrainian greenhouse complexes.

It is worth noting that today’s average greenhouse cucumber prices in Ukraine are already approximately 25% higher than at the same time last year. Looking ahead, industry opinion is that further developments in this segment will depend directly on weather conditions, which remain the key factor influencing supply volumes.
