Formula 1 planes bring Brazilian fruits to Europe

With the arrival of Formula 1 teams for the São Paulo Grand Prix, Viracopos Airport in Campinas (São Paulo) took advantage of race transport planes to export Brazilian ginger, lemons, mangoes, and papayas to Europe. In addition to cars and equipment, these planes carried fruit shipments to Amsterdam for further distribution, while additional papayas and mangoes were flown to Lisbon and Paris on commercial flights, totaling 110,601 kilograms, Fructidor informs.

Overseeing the operation was Vigiagro, the Agricultural Surveillance System at Viracopos, under Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture. Tasked with ensuring biosecurity, Vigiagro inspects exports to prevent pests and diseases from spreading. Although refrigeration was unnecessary, fast transport remained key to maintaining the fruits’ freshness.

Rita Lourenço, head of Vigiagro at Viracopos, emphasized how major events like Formula 1 open doors for boosting exports, capturing every opportunity for Brazil’s growth in international trade.
