There is a shortage of seasonal labor in the agricultural sector of the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan this year. At the suggestion of Atyrau farmers, the quota for attracting seasonal foreign labor was doubled. As spring work begins in the fields, Atyrau farmers are waiting for seasonal workers from neighboring Uzbekistan, EastFruit experts report.
According to Meirambek Aldiyarov, head of the department for coordinating employment and social programs of the Atyrau region, 800 quotas have been allocated for the seasonal work of foreign labor in 2023, Kazinform reports.
“Our main goal is to reduce the quota for attracting foreign labor and provide jobs for local residents. However, taking into account the proposals of farmers in the Atyrau region, we have increased the number of seasonal quotas to 800 people this year. This is twice as much as last year,” Meirambek Aldiyarov said.
At the same time, he recalled that there is a procedure for attracting foreign seasonal workers in the field of agriculture and farmers do it through the E-licensing web portal.
According to local farmers, seasonal workers come here mainly from Uzbekistan. In the agricultural sector of the Atyrau region, seasonal work starts in mid-February and lasts until mid-November. Greenhouses operate all year round.
