Egypt has achieved a record surge in fresh grape exports to Italy this year, according to EastFruit.
Between January and July 2025, Egyptian exporters shipped more than 7,000 tons of grapes to Italy, worth nearly USD 20 million. This represents a threefold increase compared to the same period last year and even surpasses the combined shipments of the previous three years. The volume marks a new record for Egypt’s grape exports to Italy.

Grapes are among Egypt’s leading fruit exports, ranking just behind oranges and frozen strawberries in terms of foreign currency earnings. Despite this, Italy is not traditionally a major destination for Egyptian grapes, accounting for only about 1.5% of the country’s total grape export portfolio.

Italy’s imports of fresh grapes have been rising for three consecutive seasons. In the first seven months of 2025, imports grew by 34% compared to the same period in 2024. The Netherlands and Spain remain Italy’s top suppliers, together covering more than half of the country’s grape imports. Egypt, Peru, and Germany round out the top five.

Italy itself is Europe’s largest grape producer and exporter. The domestic season runs from July to October, during which imports are minimal. Imports resume in November, led by Spain, followed by the Netherlands, Peru, and Germany in December. Grapes from Chile and South Africa enter the market in March-April, while Egyptian grapes arrive in May and dominate by June.
This year, due to a delayed domestic season in Italy, Egypt continued exporting grapes into July, capturing an extraordinary 90% share of Italy’s grape imports that month. As a result, Egypt not only set a new export record but also outpaced all competitors, becoming Italy’s leading supplier of grapes in the first seven months of 2025.
Egypt has also been expanding its garlic exports to Italy, further strengthening its position in the European market.
