Egypt continues to rapidly increase its potato exports to the UK, according to EastFruit. After setting a record volume of exports in 2023, Egyptian exporters further increased the volume by 2.7 times in 2024.
Consequently, 23.7 thousand tons of potatoes were shipped to the UK, setting a new record, with export revenue also reaching a record $13.5 million. The export period for Egyptian potatoes to the UK in 2024 lasted from February to August, with the peak occurring in June, as it did the previous year.
Egypt has a strong chance of entering the top three potato exporters to the UK for the first time this year. The only potential obstacle is France, which would need to export more than 1.5 thousand tons in the last month of the year to surpass Egypt.

Additionally, in 2024, the total volume of potatoes imported into the UK nearly doubled compared to 2023, due to a significant drop in the potato harvest in the reported season.
In recent years, the main suppliers of potatoes to the UK have been Israel, Ireland, and until 2020, Belgium. However, the situation changed significantly in 2024. While Israel maintained its status as the leading exporter, Ireland and Belgium were overtaken by the Netherlands, Egypt, and France. As a result, Egypt’s share of the total potato imports to the UK reached 15.7% in the first 11 months of the year, up from 10.8% in 2023 and 1.2% in 2022.
It is worth noting that Egypt is among the top five global potato exporters, ranking fourth in 2023. Over the past five years, potatoes have been the third most valuable export in Egypt’s fruit and vegetable sector, following oranges and grapes.
