Egypt continues to strengthen its position in the Turkish palm date market, according to EastFruit. Following a record-breaking export volume of 3.9 thousand tons last season, Egypt has further increased its shipments to Turkey in the current marketing year (July 2024 – June 2025), reaching a new high of 5.9 thousand tons. These exports are valued at $27.2 million.

This marks a 1.5-fold increase compared to the previous season and an extraordinary 288-fold surge compared to the 2020/21 season. Over the past four years, Egypt’s average annual export growth rate to Turkey has reached an impressive 312%.
Turkey now ranks as Egypt’s third-largest destination for date exports, following Morocco and Indonesia. Shipments to Turkey account for 4% of Egypt’s total date exports. While exports occur year-round, volumes typically peak between December and March, aligning with Turkey’s seasonal demand for dates.

Despite Iran remaining the leading supplier of dates to Turkey, its market share is steadily declining. Egypt is also competing with Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Palestine. Notably, Iraq has nearly halved its exports this season, allowing Egypt to surpass it in the rankings.
As of the first 11 months of the current season, Egypt stands as the fourth-largest date supplier to Turkey and is well-positioned to finish the season within the top five.
These gains have significantly boosted Egypt’s share of the Turkish date import market—from just 0.03% in 2020/21 to 8% this season—further establishing Turkey as a key importer of Egyptian dates.
Beyond dates, Egypt is also expanding its exports to Turkey of sweet potatoes, garlic, potatoes, and frozen green beans.
Meanwhile, Egyptian date exports to Vietnam are also experiencing robust growth, despite increasing competition in the global market.
