Egypt is making significant strides in expanding its presence in the Dominican Republic’s frozen strawberry market, as reported by EastFruit. In 2024, Egypt exported nearly 3,000 tons of frozen strawberries to the Dominican Republic, doubling the previous year’s volume and increasing by 120 times compared to five years ago. The export value also saw a substantial rise, reaching a record $3.9 million.
The Dominican Republic’s market is relatively new for Egypt. The first shipments of Egyptian frozen strawberries arrived in the spring of 2018. Since then, export volumes have grown almost every year, with an eightfold increase in the last two years alone.

The booming resort industry in the Dominican Republic has sharply driven up demand for frozen berries, leading to a significant increase in imports.
Until 2021, the primary suppliers of frozen strawberries to the Dominican Republic were China, Spain, Peru, and the USA. However, in 2021, Egypt changed the dynamics by delivering 363 tons of frozen strawberries, thereby increasing its share in the import structure to 31%. Although the 2022 season was less favorable for Egypt, placing it third among suppliers, it regained the top position in 2023, boosting its share to 56%. By the end of 2024, Egyptian frozen strawberries accounted for over 71% of the Dominican Republic’s market. This rapid growth in imports from Egypt has effectively displaced Peru and the USA from the market.
In addition to frozen strawberries, Egypt exports frozen beans, fresh and dried onions to the Dominican Republic. Moreover, the export of Egyptian frozen strawberries is also growing in other North American countries, including the USA and Canada. Notably, exports to Brazil have increased thirtyfold over the past five years.
