Egypt has doubled its frozen strawberry exports to Poland, setting a new record and consolidating its dominance in the European market, according to EastFruit. In 2025, Poland imported 62,200 tons of Egyptian frozen strawberries, valued at more than EUR 70 million. This represents 2.2 times the volume of 2024 and exceeds the combined shipments of 2023-2024.

Egyptian strawberries are supplied year-round, with peak volumes between April and September. In 2025, July imports reached 9,500 tons (2.6 times higher than the same month in 2024), while May and June also posted strong figures of 9,200 and 9,300 tons respectively. Egypt’s share of Poland’s imports rose to 73.6%, up from 69.4% a year earlier.
Germany ranked second with 8,200 tons (9.7%), doubling its exports, while China surged to third place with 6,300 tons (7.5%), more than tripling its previous year’s shipments. The Netherlands followed with 2,300 tons, and Ukraine, once a top-three supplier, reduced exports to just 1,200 tons.
Poland, traditionally a major EU producer and exporter of frozen strawberries, faced severe challenges in 2025. Unseasonal frosts in May sharply reduced field strawberry harvests, while rising labor and energy costs eroded competitiveness. To maintain supply contracts with Western retailers and sustain re-export volumes, Polish processors turned to imports.
At the same time, Poland’s processing industry is shifting toward higher value-added products such as berry blends, purées, and specialized food ingredients. This transformation requires stable raw material flows, which domestic production could not guarantee. Imports, particularly from Egypt, became essential to keep factories operating and contracts fulfilled.
For Poland’s processors, Egyptian strawberries served as a lifeline, ensuring capacity utilization and export continuity during a domestic supply crisis. Egypt’s success in Poland reflects its broader global expansion, with record-breaking exports also achieved in China, Turkey, and Germany in 2025.
