Despite the decline in prices, cabbage in Ukraine costs 3 times more than last year

Low demand and quality issues are forcing Ukrainian growers to reduce prices for cabbage, EastFruit project analysts report.

Today, producers ship white cabbage at 10-17 UAH/kg ($0.27-0.46/kg), which is 35% cheaper on average than at the end of the last week.

Growers believe that the main reason for the downward price trend is the dissatisfaction of buyers with the quality of white cabbage, which has significantly deteriorated due to adverse weather conditions. The period for the sale of low-quality cabbage is very limited, thus wholesale companies and retail chains make purchases exclusively in small wholesale for current sales. As a result, the supply of cabbage on the market remains excessive, which is why growers do not exclude further reduction in prices in the segment.

At the same time, despite the reduction in prices in the segment, selling prices for white cabbage remain record high today. The current price is already on average 2.8 times higher than in the same period last year.
