The increasing supply of greenhouse cucumbers on the Ukrainian market is forcing producers to revise prices downward almost daily, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. Additionally, prices in this segment are under pressure due to the growing reluctance of wholesale companies and retail chains to purchase large batches of greenhouse cucumbers, citing sluggish sales in retail.
As a result, significant volumes of unsold products have already accumulated in company warehouses, and their quality is beginning to deteriorate.
As of today, greenhouse producers are willing to ship cucumbers at prices ranging from UAH 40 to 65 per kilogram ($0.96–1.56/kg), depending on the variety, quality, and batch size—an average decrease of 17% compared to the end of last week.
Producers attribute this latest price drop to a substantial increase in the supply of cucumbers from summer greenhouses, which are currently being sold at UAH 25–35/kg ($0.60–0.84/kg).
It is worth noting that, as of now, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are being offered at prices 35% higher on average compared to late May 2024. However, many market participants do not see prospects for improvement in this situation and do not rule out the possibility of further price declines, as the volumes harvested in permanent greenhouse facilities continue to grow.
