Cucumber Prices Plummet in Ukraine

The Ukrainian market continues to experience a downward trend in greenhouse cucumber prices. According to daily monitoring data from the EastFruit project, the main factors driving the negative price dynamics in this segment are the increasing harvest volumes from local greenhouse complexes and relatively low consumer demand.

At the same time, large greenhouse producers are already reporting significant stockpiles of cucumbers in storage, as weekly harvest volumes continue to rise. To avoid an excess of unsold produce, growers are being forced to reduce their selling prices once again.

As of today, greenhouse cucumbers are being shipped at prices ranging from UAH 45–75/kg ($1.08–1.80/kg), depending on the variety, quality, and batch size. This represents an average price drop of 42% compared to the previous week.

It is also worth noting that locally grown cucumbers continue to face strong competition from imported products, particularly from Romania. Many importers still hold large stocks of Romanian cucumbers from last week and have had to cut their prices to as low as UAH 25/kg ($0.60/kg).

Given these conditions, Ukrainian greenhouse producers see no alternative but to continue lowering their prices. Currently, prices are already averaging 34% lower than at the end of April 2024.
