Cucumber prices continue to rise rapidly in Ukraine

This week, Ukrainian greenhouse producers once again increased their wholesale prices for cucumbers, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. The main reason for this sharp rise is the seasonal decline in local supply. Prices are also being supported by the absence of import competition and strong demand from domestic wholesalers and retail chains.

According to daily monitoring data from the project, the cucumber marketing season in Ukrainian greenhouses is nearing its end. Farms are now clearing their greenhouses and mostly selling remaining volumes in small wholesale quantities. It is also worth noting that product quality has significantly declined in the final batches, yet this has not prevented sellers from raising prices further. Since the beginning of the current week alone, cucumber prices have increased by an average of 21%, and today wholesale prices are reported in the range of 90–110 UAH/kg ($2.16–2.63/kg), depending on quality and batch size.

As of now, greenhouse cucumber prices in Ukraine are on average 11% higher than during the same period last year. Experts note that this situation could soon lead to the resumption of imports from Turkey, possibly starting next week. In that case, prices for locally produced cucumbers may stabilize under pressure from cheaper imported products.
