Cabbage production of Uzbekistan to increase by almost 50 thousand tonnes in 2022

The most widely grown vegetable in Uzbekistan is cabbage, the production of which is growing annually. Harvest of 1 254 293 tonnes of cabbage is expected in 2022. In 2021, 1 205 568 tonnes were harvested, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.

Meanwhile, cabbage export volumes are also increasing. 106 500 tonnes of cabbage were exported in January-May 2022. This is 26 100 tonnes or 32% more than in the corresponding period of 2021 (January-May 2021). In 2022, Uzbek cabbage was exported to Afghanistan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Russia and Ukraine.

Scientists of the country contribute to the development of the sector. In particular, research on “Selection of early-ripening varieties of cabbage and improvement of some elements of cultivation technology” is being carried out at the Research Institute of Vegetables, Melons and Potatoes under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
