Boleh La 2.0 – Egypt’s trade mission to Malaysia strengthens Southeast Asian presence

Building on the success of its recent mission to Singapore, Egypt has extended its outreach in Southeast Asia with a dedicated trade mission to Malaysia. The initiative aims to further expand Egypt’s footprint in the region’s dynamic fruit and vegetable market.

In Kuala Lumpur, 15 Egyptian exporters of fresh, frozen, and dried fruits and vegetables engaged in B2B meetings with 14 Malaysian importers and retailers. The event was organized by FAO and EBRD, with strong support from the Embassy of Egypt, HEIA, and AEC associations.

Egypt has reaffirmed its position as one of the fastest-growing exporters of fruits and vegetables worldwide, offering a diverse portfolio that caters to both mass-market and premium segments. For Malaysian buyers, Egypt has proven to be a strategic partner of choice, combining scale, quality, and variety.

Already a leading supplier to Malaysia, Egypt is well positioned to deepen its market presence and broaden its offering with new product categories, further strengthening trade ties between the two nations.

“Egypt is proud to showcase its growing capabilities in the fruit and vegetable sector, where innovation and advanced technologies are driving both quality and efficiency. Our exporters are making a significant contribution to global food supply chains, and Malaysia represents a key partner in this journey. With a strong commitment to food safety and compliance, Egypt is well positioned to expand its export portfolio and meet the diverse needs of Malaysian consumers. This mission reflects our determination to strengthen bilateral trade ties and to build a sustainable future together,” said His Excellency Mr. Haytham A. Abdelghany, Commercial Counselor at the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Kuala Lumpur, who traveled to Singapore to personally attend and support the event.

“By helping Egyptian fresh produce exporters diversify and grow their international partnerships, we contribute to the long-term sustainability of their businesses while strengthening Egypt’s food security. Revenue from fruit and vegetable exports not only supports jobs and rural communities, but also helps finance Egypt’s essential imports of wheat, grains, and oilseeds.

This mission also brings tangible benefits to Malaysian consumers, who will gain access to a broader range of high-quality fresh produce at more competitive prices. By expanding trade between our two regions, we stimulate healthier diets, enable more resilient supply chains, and create value for all partners involved,” said Andriy Yarmak, Economist at the FAO Investment Center and the project leader.

“Egypt has once again reaffirmed its role as a global driver of the fruit and vegetable industry, delivering outstanding fresh produce opportunities to both Singapore and Malaysia. These missions have highlighted Egypt’s ability to consistently bring competitive deals and premium quality to international markets”, said Yevhen Kuzin, Horticulture Market Analyst at the FAO Investment Center.

“Egypt offers a wide portfolio of premium fresh produce, cultivated to exceptional standards. When Egypt engages in business discussions, it does so with a serious, long-term perspective. For this mission, we carefully selected companies that are confident, capable, and fully prepared to build sustainable partnerships with Malaysian buyers,” said Hajer Magdy, Export Development Specialist at FAO.

“We are delighted that this trade mission has provided a valuable platform for meaningful engagement between Southeast Asian importers and Egyptian exporters. This exchange reinforces our shared commitment to fostering long-term partnerships and expanding collaborative opportunities across regional and global markets. By complementing each other’s strengths, we look forward to building a sustainable and mutually beneficial trade relationship,” said Janette Tang, FAO Consultant in Southeast Asia.

“We welcomed a very strong selection of Egyptian exporters today. Many were new to us, and it was refreshing to discover additional resources and opportunities. The majority of these new exporters demonstrated solid expertise and a clear understanding of the products they are bringing to the Malaysian market, which gives us confidence in the potential for future collaboration”, said Lai Jong Teng, Representative of Nature’s Best, one of leading importers in Malaysia.

“This has been an excellent event and one of the strongest trade missions I have attended, thanks to the high-quality buyers we met. The organization was outstanding, and we are already close to finalizing several deals. It provided a remarkable networking opportunity, and I look forward to participating in future FAO trade missions worldwide, as we are truly impressed with the level of professionalism and organization demonstrated here,” said Basma Albanna, Export Manager at Egyptian Export Center – HB.
