Purchase prices for Gala apples have started to rise in Poland, noticeably earlier than a year ago. The best lots of striped Gala varieties are already fetching 2.10–2.20 zloty per kg, reports EastFruit, citing Sad24.
Just a week ago, purchase prices for Gala apples in Poland were mostly around 1.80 zloty per kg, but they subsequently began to increase. Apples larger than 70 mm in diameter were already being offered at more than 2 zloty per kg.
According to Polish growers, the highest-quality lots of striped Gala clones, with a high share of fruit larger than 68–70 mm, can currently fetch 2.10–2.20 zloty per kg. However, these are individual transactions rather than standard purchase prices across the market. No higher offers have been confirmed so far.
The price increase has started earlier than last season. Last year, the 2.20 zloty per kg level was recorded only on October 6. This season, a similar trend began approximately two weeks earlier on the calendar and at least three weeks earlier when taking into account the earlier progression of the growing season.
