Another price drop for onions in Ukraine

Due to the rapid decline in the quality of onions stored in 2024, Ukrainian producers have started to massively reduce prices for this product this week, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. Another factor negatively influencing prices in this segment is the decrease in demand for onions currently observed.

As a result of such price adjustments, onions are now sold at 9-15 UAH/kg ($0.21-0.36/kg), depending on the quality and volume of the batches offered, which is, on average, 10% cheaper than at the end of the previous workweek. Additionally, producers who decided to suspend sales in the first half of the current season have opened their storage facilities, leading to a sharp increase in the supply of onions on the market, further reducing selling prices in this segment.

It is worth noting that onions in Ukraine are now offered at an average of 10% cheaper than in the same period last year. Producers themselves point out that the decline in onion demand and prices in this segment is typical for this time of year, and trade is likely to pick up only by the end of February, when almost all medium and low-quality products will be off the market.
