The development of the potato sector in Ukraine is currently constrained by the lack of access for Ukrainian products to international export markets, EastFruit reports.
This opinion was expressed by Kostyantyn Shytiuk, Chief Operating Officer of Continental Farmers Group, in an article published in Plantator magazine.
“Work on opening the EU market is ongoing, but quick solutions should not be expected,” he noted.
Shytiuk уточнив, що триває робота щодо створення вільних карантинних зон, які не обмежуватимуть експорт картоплі.

Shytiuk clarified that efforts are underway to establish pest-free (quarantine-free) zones that would not restrict potato exports.
“If this can be achieved, it would provide strong support for the industry in Ukraine. Under our conditions and with our technologies, this segment could develop much more intensively,” the COO emphasized.
His view was supported by Georg von Nolcken, CEO of the holding, who believes that quarantine restrictions and the relatively small scale of professional industrial potato production in Ukraine limit overall market size and lead to high price volatility from year to year.
