The month of February brings the problem of spring frost back to our attention. Tools to combat late frost do exist and, in several Italian regions, they are financed through calls for tenders, RDPs, or other contributions. As Aria srl, manufacturer of the latest generation of anti-frost fans, informs us, there are currently some active calls for tenders in the Emilia-Romagna and Veneto regions, but there is also the possibility of accessing important contributions in other regions, FreshPlaza informs.
The electric fans produced by the Tuscan company Aria srl are a solution against late frost, but also against the excessive noise that sometimes creates discomfort around farms. “One of our latest innovations, which is arousing interest, is the mobile version of Antibrina 3-22-C installed on an agricultural cart. We designed the only 10-metre high mobile anti-frost fan. It is the same model, mounted on a foundation plinth, with the same performance in terms of coverage as the fixed fans, but with the flexibility of the mobile ones. The special design also allowed us to create a machine that is very compact despite its height and that, once closed, can be easily moved within rows,” explains Manuele Morelli, owner of Aria and design engineer.
The choice of using an electric motor instead of a diesel one is convincing farmers in Italy, as well as abroad. In addition to noise reduction, there are clear advantages when it comes to operation and maintenance. “Antibrina 3-22 is driven by an electric motor connected directly to the rotor, without the need for transmission parts. Our fan can be directly connected to the mains, or powered by a generator or tractor generator,” Morelli explains.

The electric motor and the absence of mechanical transmission parts eliminate the problems caused by the many months of downtime and, therefore, also greatly reduce maintenance costs. “An anti-frost fan remains idle for many months of the year, which damages conventional motors and makes restarting often difficult and very expensive.”
“The technical solutions adopted make Antibrina 3-22 one of the quietest anti-frost fans on the market and, in fact, technical tests have shown that the noise level is about half that of traditional frost fans,” concludes the engineer.
