Tighter Turkish supplies temporarily drive up greenhouse tomato prices in Ukraine

A significant contraction in the supply of greenhouse tomatoes on the Ukrainian market this week has enabled sellers to slightly increase prices in this segment, according to analysts from EastFruit. At this time of year, Turkey remains the main supplier of tomatoes to Ukraine; however, shipments of greenhouse tomatoes from Turkey have declined somewhat over the past few weeks.

According to the project’s daily monitoring data, greenhouse tomatoes are currently offered on the Ukrainian wholesale market at UAH 90–110 per kg ($2.09–2.55/kg), which is on average 12% higher than at the end of the previous working week. At the same time, experts note that sellers are cautious about raising prices further, given the relatively weak demand from both wholesale buyers and retail chains.

It is worth noting that greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine are now selling at prices around 10% higher than in mid-January 2025. However, many market participants believe that the current price situation is temporary. They do not rule out that tomato prices may start to decline again as early as next week, once supplies of Turkish vegetables to the Ukrainian market normalize.

More detailed insights into the greenhouse tomato market and other fruit and vegetable segments in Ukraine are available on the EastFruit website.
