Ukrainian fruit growers have begun selling the first local sweet cherries of the new season, according to analysts at the EastFruit project. Despite spring frosts and unfavorable weather conditions, the cherry season in Ukraine has started on schedule.
As of today, sweet cherries from domestic farms are being offered at wholesale prices ranging from 100 to 200 UAH/kg ($2.41–4.82/kg), depending on the variety and batch volume. However, the quality of the available product is generally rated as low.
In comparison, imported premium-quality cherries are currently being sold at 400–850 UAH/kg ($9.70–20.70/kg), depending on the variety and country of origin.

It is also worth noting that the market is currently dominated by early stone fruit varieties. However, early cherries are typically not in high demand among wholesale buyers due to their relatively small size. As larger-caliber cherries enter the market, most growers plan to further reduce prices for early varieties.
It is worth recalling that last year, the first deliveries of sweet cherries to the domestic market began around the same time as this season. At that time, wholesale prices started at 50 UAH/kg ($1.20/kg), which is roughly half the current price level.
