Carrot prices are showing an upward trend on the domestic market of Ukraine, according to analysts from the EastFruit project. Market participants note an overall decline in the supply of root vegetables from local producers.
As of today, Ukrainian farmers are ready to ship carrots at prices starting from UAH 6–12 per kg ($0.14–0.28/kg), which is on average 15% higher than at the end of the previous working week. At the same time, most holders of high-quality carrots continue to restrain sales, expecting even more significant price growth in this segment.
Market players explain the price increase in the carrot segment by a noticeable reduction in supply. At present, sales of these root vegetables from non-equipped storage facilities have almost been completed, and the availability of lower-grade carrots has also significantly decreased. This, in turn, has allowed producers to raise prices for higher-quality products.
It is worth noting that, despite the recent increase, carrot prices in Ukraine are still on average 70% lower than during the same period last year. Nevertheless, most experts agree that the current price rise is temporary, and more active growth should be expected closer to mid-spring this year.
